LeBron James Autograph Card Checklist — Every Signed Card, Set by Set

A set-by-set map of LeBron James autograph cards. His certified card signatures come from Upper Deck — headlined by the 2003-04 Exquisite rookie patch auto — because Upper Deck holds his exclusive autograph rights. Panini's LeBron cards are patches and Logoman 1/1s, not autos. On-card vs. sticker, RPAs and 1/1s, with live eBay listings.

By Andre Whitlock Updated August 23, 2026

There is no single “LeBron James autograph card” — but there are far fewer of them than the market implies, and knowing why is the most valuable thing on this page.

LeBron signed an exclusive autograph and memorabilia agreement with Upper Deck, and it has never moved. That single fact splits his entire card catalogue in two: Upper Deck products can carry his signature; Panini products, which dominate the 2009-10 → 2024-25 NBA era by volume, carry his patches and one-of-ones but never his autograph.

This is the map. Use it to see which sets carry a real LeBron signature, understand the difference between on-card, sticker, RPA and 1/1 formats, and jump straight to live eBay listings. For the “which should I actually buy” strategy, pair this with our LeBron autographs & top cards money page and the collecting LeBron James cards guide.

One rule before you shop: LeBron is one of the most counterfeited signatures in the hobby. Only buy autos that are factory-certified (signed for the set and encased/labeled by the manufacturer) or third-party authenticated and graded — and check the manufacturer first, because a signed Panini LeBron is not a card that exists. Read how to spot a fake LeBron autograph first. We never fabricate card numbers or print runs here; we name the real set families and let the live eBay rails surface the actual cards and their current comps.

The two eras — and only one of them is signed

  1. The Upper Deck era (2003-04 onward). Upper Deck’s licensed lineup produced the grail rookie autograph — the Exquisite RPA — and it is the family where LeBron’s certified card signatures live. Upper Deck retained his signing rights even after it lost the NBA licence, which is why “Upper Deck Authenticated” is the name attached to his signed memorabilia.
  2. The Panini exclusive era (2009-10 → 2024-25). Panini made every licensed LeBron card of the Heat, Cavaliers-return and Lakers years. Enormous variety — base, parallels, inserts, jumbo patches, Logoman 1/1s — but no signatures. These are the cards people mean when they say “modern LeBron premium”; they simply are not autographs.

Era 1 — Upper Deck autographs (the historic signature lane)

The scarcest and most historically important LeBron autos. For two decades this was the only family a certified LeBron signature came from — that stopped being true in 2025-26, and Era 3 below covers what changed.

  • Upper Deck Exquisite Collection — Rookie Patch Auto (RPA). The grail. The 2003-04 Exquisite rookie patch auto is the single most important LeBron card in the hobby and helped define modern high-end collecting. Find Exquisite rookie autos on eBay.
  • Upper Deck’s other premium signature products. Across its licensed years Upper Deck placed LeBron signature content in several premium lines beyond Exquisite. We don’t list individual sub-brands here without a verified checklist in hand — the rail below shows which signed Upper Deck LeBrons are genuinely on the market. Find Upper Deck LeBron autos on eBay.
  • Upper Deck Authenticated hand-signed items. Signed cards, photos and memorabilia issued through Upper Deck’s authentication programme rather than inside a pack. Legitimate and certificated, but a different market from pack-pulled autos. Find SP Authentic / UD-era LeBron cards on eBay.

For the full rookie-year picture — including the base and chrome rookies that surround these autos — see the 2003-04 Upper Deck rookie set review and the complete LeBron rookie card checklist.

Era 2 — Panini premium LeBron cards (unsigned, and that’s normal)

These are the cards collectors chase in the modern era. They are patches, jumbo materials and one-of-ones, and their value does not depend on a signature.

Era 3 — Topps/Fanatics autographs (2025-26 onward) — the lane that just opened

This is the newest and most important change to LeBron’s signature market in twenty years, and it is why the “Upper Deck only” rule above now needs a date on it. When the NBA trading-card licence moved to Topps for 2025-26, certified LeBron autographs came with it. The published 2025-26 Topps Basketball checklist carries him at Flagship Real One Auto #TFRA-LJ and 1980-81 Topps Chrome Veteran Auto #80CA2-LBJ, alongside a Flagship Real One Relics #FRO-LBJ. The product page’s own summary puts it plainly: collectors can chase “the earliest licensed LeBron James autographs for the Lakers.”

Practically, this means two things. A certified LeBron autograph is no longer automatically an Upper Deck card — check the manufacturer and the season. And a Topps-branded LeBron auto dated 2025-26 or later is not a red flag, which is the opposite of the advice that applied to every prior season.

Source: the 2025-26 Topps Basketball checklist published by checklistinsider.com (released 23 October 2025). For the licence move itself, Wikipedia’s Fanatics, Inc. entry: “It was announced in October 2025 that Fanatics, through its subsidiary Topps, obtained the NBA trading card license.” For Upper Deck’s side of the split, its Wikipedia entry records “exclusive agreements to produce memorabilia, under the brand name ‘Upper Deck Authenticated’, with athletes including Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, LeBron James, [and] Wayne Gretzky.”

Autograph types — what the terms mean

Whichever set you’re buying from, certified autos come in a few distinct formats. Knowing the difference protects your money:

  • On-card auto — the signature is applied directly to the card surface. Generally the most desirable, all else equal. Find on-card LeBron autos on eBay.
  • Sticker auto — the signature is on a clear label affixed to the card. Still a legitimate factory auto, usually a step below an equivalent on-card version.
  • Rookie Patch Auto (RPA) — combines a signature with an embedded jersey/patch swatch; the 2003-04 Exquisite RPA is the format’s most famous example. Find LeBron RPAs on eBay.
  • Logoman & 1/1 — the ultimate chase: the one-of-one NBA Logoman patch, or another true one-of-one parallel. On LeBron cards these are unsigned. Find Logoman 1/1s on eBay.

Buy smart on autographs

  1. Check the manufacturer first. Upper Deck can carry a LeBron signature. Panini cannot. That one check kills most of the fakes before you look at anything else.
  2. Certified or graded only. A factory auto or a third-party-authenticated slab is your protection against the rest. Find graded LeBron autos (PSA/BGS) on eBay.
  3. On-card commands a premium. Between two comparable autos at a similar price, the on-card version is usually the better hold.
  4. Numbering drives scarcity. Lower serial numbers and 1/1s carry the biggest premiums — the live listings show exactly how each card is numbered.
  5. Grade multiplies value. Even on autos, centering and corners drive the grade, and the grade drives the price. If you’re weighing a submission, run the math in our grading ROI calculator and read should you grade your LeBron cards?.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many LeBron James autograph cards are there?
Far fewer than most collectors assume. LeBron's certified card autographs come from Upper Deck, which holds his exclusive autograph rights — headlined by the 2003-04 Exquisite rookie patch auto and the rest of Upper Deck's licensed-era premium lineup. Panini, which held the NBA licence from 2009-10 to 2024-25, produced an enormous volume of LeBron cards but no LeBron signatures. This checklist maps the families that exist; the live eBay links surface the actual cards and how each is numbered.
Does Panini make LeBron James autograph cards?
No. Check the published checklists for Panini's flagship products — National Treasures, Immaculate Collection, Flawless, Contenders, Prizm — and LeBron appears in base, insert, parallel and memorabilia subsets only, never in a signature subset, while dozens of other stars do. His autograph rights sit with Upper Deck. A listing offering a 'Panini LeBron autograph' should be treated as unproven until a reputable authenticator says otherwise.
What is the most valuable LeBron James autograph card?
Values move constantly, so always check live sold comps rather than any fixed number. In general the 2003-04 Upper Deck Exquisite rookie patch autograph sits at the very top of the LeBron market. Unsigned Logoman one-of-ones from Panini's premium lines trade in the same rarefied air even without a signature. Grade multiplies everything on top of that.
Are LeBron James autographs on-card or sticker autos?
Both formats exist across his signed Upper Deck cards. On-card means the signature is applied directly to the card; sticker means it was signed on a clear label the manufacturer then applies. All else equal, on-card autos are more desirable — but both can be legitimate factory autographs. The eBay listings note which is which.
How do I know a LeBron autograph card is real?
Buy autos that are either factory-certified (signed for the card set and encased or labeled by the manufacturer) or third-party authenticated and graded. Start by checking the manufacturer: LeBron is one of the most counterfeited signatures in the hobby, and because Panini never produced a LeBron signature, a signed Panini card is a red flag on its face. Read our guide on how to spot a fake LeBron autograph before you buy.
Does LeBron have a rookie autograph card?
Yes — the rookie-year signatures come from the 2003-04 Upper Deck family, and the Exquisite Collection rookie patch auto is the crown jewel. Panini did not make LeBron's rookies at all, so no Panini card is a LeBron rookie, signed or otherwise.
